KLM’s Spencer checks in passengers
Spencer Assists with Air Travel in Amsterdam
KLM Royal Dutch Airlines in Amsterdam, Netherlands employed their first socially aware robot, Spencer.
Back in March 2016, Spencer successfully passed his initial testing, scanning passenger boarding passes and guiding them to the correct departure gate. He can even adjust his speed to match a person’s pace.
The name Spencer was derived from “Social situation-aware PErceptioN and action for CognitivE Robots”. According to the Royal Aeronautical Society, Spencer was used from November 2016 to March 2017, but we can’t find a more recent sighting. Maybe you can help us find Spencer.
