Little Casper helps children with cancer

At the Portuguese Oncology Institute in Lisbon, doctors introduced young cancer patients to Little Casper, an exceptionally cute robot to keep them engaged and in good spirits. Hospitals can be scary, but this ID Mind robot offered social interaction to children.

As part of a research project from 2013 to 2016, Monarch*, a consortium of five academic institutions, two SME’s and the hospital combined robot technology with social and psychological interactions. Based on the hypothesis that children with serious illness recover faster when they are happier, Little Casper engaged with young patients in educational and entertainment activities.
